Noordwijk – From space and the absence of gravity, or from its opposite, the hypergravity, will come useful information to prevent and treat the onset of diseases related to aging and physical inactivity on Earth. To perform these experiments, the European Space Agency selected for the 2016 “Spin your thesis!” campaign the proposal of an Italian team, coordinated by Debora Angeloni, researcher of the Institute of Life Sciences at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa . The team “HypE” (short for “Hypergravity effect on Endothelium”) coordinated by the Sant’Anna School, has been chosen to conduct experiments in hypergravity within the “Large diameter centrifuge”, a “spin” of the diameter of 8 meters which allows for gravity conditions greater than Earth’s, installed in the European Centre for space research and technology (Estec) in Noordwijk, Holland. For “Spin your thesis!” 2016, Italy has brought home a great success. (9Colonne)
