Brussels. The objectives of CERERE (CEreal REnaissance in Rural Europe: embedding diversity in organic and low-input food systems) are to support and promote innovative approaches for the embedding diversity in organic and low-input food systems in Europe. This is a project financed by the Horizon 2020 programme and presented by an international network which includes CeRA, University of Florence (Interdepartmental Research Centre for food development). Low-input harvesting systems are characterised by blends of seeds that favour the utilization of ancient qualities, offering a greater capacity for adaptation to atmospheric conditions in addition to other minor production risks. They are therefore less subject to inconsistent prices and therefore represent a solution for Europe to conventional supply chain crisis. The three year project- selected by the European Commission among the 26-obtained a grant of approximately €2 million, was coordinated by the University of Reading (United Kingdom) and comprises of 13 partners among research institutes, agricultural networks and centres for development and innovation in the agricultural field.
