(November 25) New York rediscovers the Italian writer, Italo Calvino through the American writer and essayist Jonathan Letham. In 1984, Calvino was invited to hold a series of lectures at Harvard University. He completed five of the six scheduled lectures about the imaginative possibilities of language and literature before his death. His lectures were recorded and and well known by many, titled “Lezioni Americane: sei proposte per il Nuovo Millenio”, now available in the translated edition by Geoffrey Brock. The New York “Center for Fiction”, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute, have decided to organised an evening with Lethem, who will present his reflections on the first of Calvino’s lectures: “Leggerezza”. Lethem will also talk about the deep effect that Calvino’s works have had on his writing. The conference will take place at the Brooklyn Historical Society Great Hall on Sunday December 4 from 19:00 to 21:00 (red)
