(29 November, 2016) A new staging of Vincenzo Bellini’s ‘Norma’ in Tel Aviv- the opera that debuted at La Scala of Milan on December 26 in 1831. Norma will open on November 30 and performances will run through December 17 at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center which is the seat of the Israeli Opera. The opening evening is promoted with the collaboration of the Italian Cultural Institute of Tel Aviv. “Focused on the protagonist of the opera, this piece became the strong suit of certain great sopranos of the past, among which are Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland and Monsterrat Caballé. Norma is set in Gall during the Roman empire and demonstrates strong links to the myth of Medea” according to a note by the Italian Cultural Institute. (Red)
