Brussels – The most advanced technological solutions for development of marine energy in the Mediterranean area will be the focus of the analysis of a large international research project, MAESTRALE, coordinated by the University of Siena and co-financed by the EU European Regional Development Fund with 2.4 million euro, under the Interreg MED program. The project, lasting three years, aims to broaden the knowledge and awareness among citizens and institutions on the potential of “blue energy”, the sources of marine energy derived from waves, tides, currents and gradients salinity and temperature along with other alternative energy forms related to the use of off-shore and the use of aquatic biomass, such as algae, identifying the best solutions. the ten partners of the project will deepen the technological aspects of innovation, environmental and economic sustainability, acceptance by citizens, of possible conflicts with the marine ecosystem, such as loss of biodiversity, and specifically incompatible with the existing legislation.
