(27 January 2017) “Nothing is ours anymore. They took away our clothes, shoes, our hair; they will not listen to us if we speak and if they did listen, they would not understand”. The story begins on December 13, 1943 when Primo Levi was arrested by the Fascist militia and then deported to the Buna-Monowitz camp near Auschwitz where he survived the liberation on 27 January, 1945. The terrible reality of his testimony, avoiding a pietistic tone, is represented through shocking colours, simplicity and – although difficult- light-heartedness. “Primo” is the title of the literary recital drawn from Levi’s novel “If this is a man” organised by the Italian Cultural Institute of Moscow on January 29 from 19:00 to 20:30 at the Jewish Museum and the Centre for Tolerance to commemorate the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The adaptation was carried out by Giovanni Calò (who also directed) and Jacob Oleson, the actor in the recital. The event will be introduced by Professor Evgenij Solonovič who will commemorate the 30 years since Primo Levi’s death. The recital will take place in Italian with Russian subtitles. The translation into Russian is by Elena Dmitriva and is kindly made available by the Russian publishing house “Evrejskaja Proza”). (Red)
