Tyre – Yesterday the delegation of Friuli Venezia Giulia headed by the chairman of the regional council Franco Iacop and composed of councilors Franco Codega and Roberto Novelli and the Mayor of Gorizia, Ettore Romoli, and Palmanova, Francesco Martines, visited the UNIFIL base of Tyre, in southern Lebanon, and met with Brigade General Ugo Cillo, commander of Sector West of UNIFIL and of the national contingent, and later, the city’s mayor. A visit at the base where the Pozzuolo Brigade of Friuli and Genoa Cavalry troops are stationed that testifies – said Iacop – the increasingly strong bond with the land that houses the units of the “Pozzuolo”. The regional political authorities wanted to pay tribute to the military units of the Friuli Venezia Giulia that operate since last October as part of Operation “Leonte 21”, but that the delegation was also the tribute, on behalf of the Government and Italian people, to Italian peacekeepers for their commitment to support peace in Lebanon.
