Lausanne – The first robotic robot capable of promoting the recovery of a person’s balance following a slip was developed by researchers at the Institute of BioRobotics at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna di Pisa and the EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) in Lausanne, Switzerland. The effectiveness of this device was tested on the patients at the “Don Carlo Gnocchi” rehabilitation center in Florence, where testing are still going on. Wearable robots, which increase the ability to move in fragile people due to aging or pathology, have long been a reality: thanks to this new wearable system, it makes further progress and is designed as a tool to reduce the risk of falling. The technology has been described in an article published today in the journal “Scientific Reports”. (9colonne)
