(May 26, 2017) The itinerant exhibition Ever closer union – The Legacy of the Treaties of Rome for Today’s Europe, created by the Historical Archives of the European Union on the occasion of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome (1957-2017), will be displayed in Cape Town on occasion of the Italian National Day on June 2nd, at the Italian Club (Donegal St, Rugby), where it will be open to the public until June 16th 2017 from 9am to 9pm. The Italian Club is closed on Mondays. The exhibition, made up of 14 panels in English, illustrates the historical steps that led to the constitution of the European Union, considering its economic, political and social aspects, besides the role that the European Union has today on the world scene. The project is based on historical documents and photos of the Historical Archives of the European Union, the Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Italian International Cooperation, in addition to the archives of ANSA. Then the focus shifts on the concept of European international identity in relation to the enlargement process from 6 to 28 members, to close with a part devoted to the challenges the Union faces for the future. It is also expected that the exhibition will stop in other cities in the country, with times and places to be defined. (Red)
