London. A study from a research team from the University of Padova led by Vincenzo De Filippis, head of the Laboratory of Chemical Chemistry of Proteins and Biochemistry of Coagulation of the Department of Medicine Science (DSF) was published on the “Journal of Biological Chemistry” – the oldest and most prestigious American Biochemistry journal. JBC’s research – was selected among the 50 best publications of the year, out of a total of 6,600, for innovation and scientific impact. The group from Padova – Giulia Pontarollo and Laura Acquasaliente as co-authors of the study along with De Filippis and Daniele Peterle, and Ilaria Artusi – focused on the role of subtilisin, an enzyme secreted by a bacterium normally present in the human intestine. They discovered that subtilisn is able to activate the blood clotting process. (9Colonne)
