Abu Dhabi – Mozzarella Dop, grows the market for Muslim religious consumers. Boom of buffalo mozzarella from Campania certified “halal”, Arabic noun meaning “lawful”, meaning that the product can be consumed by the observant Muslims and is realized in accordance with Islamic laws, in accordance with the dictates of the Qur’an and Sharia. In 2016, 10,660,231 kilograms of “halal” buffalo mozzarella were produced in Campania, equal to 24 percent of the total. It means that 1 Dop mozzarella out of 4 is intended for Muslim consumers. There is also a growing number of certified dairy factory, which today represent 20 percent of the members of the Consortium of Conservation throughout the production area of Dop (Campania, Lazio, Capitanata in Puglia and Venafro in Molise). Success is due on the one hand to the conquest of new markets in Asian countries of Islamic faith, such as the Arab Emirates, and on the other hand, a growing appreciation for Dop mozzarella by Muslim consumers throughout Europe, to which is offered a dedicated product.
