Yangon. “Both Italy and Myanmar give great importance to art and culture, we are two nations built on the legacy of ancient civilisations, with a millenary history that we can use today to build our future”. In a time of strong inter-ethnic tensions, music, as much as universal language that can reach people of different backgrounds, represents a way to appreciate cultural and linguistic diversity.” Stated the Italian Ambassador, Pier Giorgio Aliberti in his opening remarks for Stefano Bollani’s first piano concerto in Myanmar. The event was organised by the Embassy at the Strand Hotel, an old colonial era hotel that has recently been restored and one of Yangon’s most evocative places. The concert was the culmination of the cultural programme “Italy in Myanmar 2017”, organised programma by the Italian Embassy in Yangon for the promotion of Italy in Myanmar through initiatives that aim to introduce the public to Italian art, cinema, music, fashion, design, and food.
