Brussels – With one voice, Tuscany and its seven universities and schools of excellence advocated for themselves in Brussels, with Vice President Monica Barni, to talk about the future of European research and the Horizon Europe programme, which from 2021 will manage a large part of the funding. Let’s not forget basic research, they warn. “It is necessary for applied research,” explains the vice president. “We need the right balance. In fact, both are necessary: otherwise there can not be innovation” according to University Rectors and proxies. Tuscan universities launched the organisation Tour4Eu a few months ago. Based in Brussels, its mission is to act as a catalyst for European research funding but also to strengthen the presence of universities in Europe. It includes the University of Florence, Pisa, Siena, University for Foreigners of Siena, Scuola Imt High Studies Lucca, Scuola Normale Superiore, and the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies.
