(Feb. 29) – The province of Salerno to support Greece again. The, Mayor of Baronissi, Giovanni Moscatiello, has symbolically given his monthly salary to the Greek people. To welcome Moscatiello in Athens the leaders of Kede (Centre for Research and Action on Peace). This morning, the Mayor of Baroda participated in a joint press conference with the President of Kede, after metting the Greek Minister of Interior. “When the Mayor of Cava de Tirreni, Marco Galdi, and I, soon after, started this modest, humble and symbolic initiative to donate one month’s salary to the Greek people, we did not think in any way to raise this media attention – said Moscatiello – This shows two things. The first one is that we did the right thing. Without the ancient Greek culture, Europe would not be the same . The second, that the Greeks feel alone, misunderstood and outraged by a treatment that feels undeserving, wounded in their dignity. If these observations are true, they reinforce the belief of our symbolic gesture. An equitable solution must be found for the Greek crisis: all European people, rich or not, from North and South, those with an history of democracy and those who are experiencing it now”. Even Galdi, when he decided to donate his salary, emphasized that “Greece gave us philosophy and science, poetry and literature, theatre and music”. “We must not leave Greece alone – said Galdi – and continue believing in the idea of Europe that we love and want” (Gil/Peg)
