(Feb. 29) – “When men drinks, they make good deals, they are happy , they support each others”. So said Aristophanes. And surely wine is a good business. The wine exports from Veneto in 2011 are about 1.3 billion euros and approximately 30% of the national wine exports, in quantity and value. It is a success which has roots in history and tradition, in the natural inclination for quality, innovation and research. “Today, the extraordinary qualities of the system ‘Veneto wine’, the best in Italy for quality, quantity and price competitiveness, are facing problems of domestic and international markets, with the certainty that they will be able to overcome the difficult challenges of the sector”, so said this morning Franco Manzato, from the Department of Agriculture of the region, closing “Vino Veneto. Strumenti per la competitività – Scenari, mercati, opportunità”, convention about Veneto wine, organized by Veneto Agricultura through its window Europe Direct Veneto, in agreement with the Region and AVEPA. EXPORT RECORD FOR THE VENETO WINE
The Veneto primacy is expressed with about 73 000 hectares of vineyards, more than 40 000 producers (including smallholder farmers), 8 million hectolitres of wine produced in the last harvest. And the production structure continues to improve, using the most suitable territories, innovating without departing from tradition, capturing and working with modern consumption’s trends and global demand, as prove by Prosecco. The success of its wines is also reflected in the fact that in the region there are the world’s most precious and expensive vineyards.
