(Jun. 20) – Shuttered for years, Comau Inc. has announced the re-opening of its power train plant in Royal Oak, California, located at 2800 West 14 Mile Road, to meet new demand. The return to Royal Oak and a recent expansion in Warren, are further signs of the Italian company strength. In Royal Oak, Comau – an automated production division of Turin, Italy-based Fiat Group S.p.A. with $1.3 billion in annual revenue – will employee 170 people and over 100 contract workers. The plant, with a manufacturing and system integration floor space of 30,000 square meters and 10,000 square meters office space, will feature a large meeting / training center capable of hosting both internal and external customer training events. Company spokesman, Thomas Walker, said “There is enough business to warrant opening it again. We’ll be making more power trains for a variety of customers around the world.” (Peg)
