(8 Aug) – The Italian Institute of Culture of Lima, in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Peru and the Circolo Sportivo Italiano today present the exhibition ‘Italia e Perù: due Paesi uniti dall’immigrazione’ (Italy and Peru, two countries united by immigration). The exhibition, on show until August 31st in Lima, and hosted in the rooms of the Club, is composed by a set of photographs and information panels that tell the Italian immigration to Peru and the Peruvian immigration to Italy, and aims to illustrate the peculiarity that the migration has acquired in each case. The exhibition follows a path which proposes several topics: introduction, institutions, cultural expressions and social events, social groups and personalities. During the inauguration, historian Giovanni Bonfiglio, who studied the Italian migration in Peru, will present to the documents and photographs of many Italians who have been part of Peruvian history. The migration of many Italians in the late XIX and early XX century was one of the most important phenomena in modern history. The Italians in Peru, although not as numerous as in other South American countries, were an important resource for the development of the Andean nation. This exhibition commemorates the history of Italian emigration in Peru with the aim of preventing this precious memory from being lost. (Peg)
