(Aug. 28) – Countdown to Solar Decathlon, the Olympics of zero emissions architecture. The countdown begins today with the launch of MED in Italy, the first all-Italian 100% sustainable house that will participate in the international competition to be held in Madrid from September 13 to 30. The prototype developed by the Roma Tre University, in collaboration with the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and built in Bolzano at RubnerHaus, will arrive in the Spanish capital by train, the means of transport with the lowest environmental impact. The shipping will be done by Trenitalia and will save 5 tons of CO2. The no-carbon house – designed to be lightweight and easy to transport – will be built in just seven days from a team of students and teachers in the large exhibition area of Villa Solar, where on September 13 the competition will be inaugurated in the presence of the Spanish Minister of Economic Development . During the 18 days of the competition, MED in Italy will compete against other prototypes in a real decathlon: energy balance, architectural quality, environmental comfort, equipment and, of course, the mean of transport chosen to get the house in Madrid.
