(Sept. 26) – The Group Leitner, world leader in the field of cable transport systems, has won another prestigious international contract. The Swiss giant Holcim, absolute leader in the production of cement with a turnover of over 20 billion Swiss francs, entrusted to the Italian group the task of creating a conveyor plane belt in Barroso, in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. Leitner won the contract by submitting a project prepared by its subsidiary Agudio – historical ropeway company from Turin – based on the exclusive patent Flyingbelt, able to combine a low environmental impact, economy, simplicity of construction and maintenance, and great adaptability to the path, which is very important in the area of Minas Gerais, characterized by a dense vegetation and steep cliffs. The project involves the construction of a 7 km plant, linking the main quarry to the work site, which will replace the old and inadequate ropeway. The supply contract entrusts to the Italian company the entire design and construction of the electromechanical works, as well as the delicate operations of assembling, joining and tensioning ropes. The inauguration is scheduled for the end of 2014. The assignment will bring to the Leitner Group 25.5 million euros. (red)
