Nov. 30 – From Trento to Aleppo, in the name of solidarity and friendship among nations. The proposed project by the Friends of Villa St. Ignatius finds in the Jesuit refugee service its Syrian partner, and can count on the support of the Autonomous Province of Trento to achieve its mission: help deal with the humanitarian emergency arising in Syria after the outbreak of the civil war, with particular reference to the city of Aleppo. The project, for now of a three-month duration (December to February), for a provincial allocation of € 200,000, will allow thousands of displaced people in camps to survive the winter, thanks to the provision of hot meals, clothing, fuel, and gas or electric stoves. The press conference was attended by the provincial councilor for international solidarity and coexistence, Giovanazzi Lia Beltrami, Basil Menapace from the Friends of Villa St.
Ignatius, Angelika Mendes representing the Jesuit refugee service, and Alessandro Brunialti from the Red Cross. The team is also composed of the Islamic community of Trento and Caritas. “The first victims of this conflict are the civilians – said Councillor Beltrami – and that’s why the Service for Refugees of the Roman Jesuits coordinates operations in 50 countries around the world. We just want to make our contribution to help those who have lost everything and now live in refugee camps.”
