Dec. 19 – Cruise ships are veritable floating cities, inhabited by thousands of people who need a telecommunications platform efficiently working in the middle of the sea. Establishing an effective network for all data services, voice and video is a process that few are able to achieve: among these few, there is a Friuli company, the Campoformido’s Teletronics. A “small” firm, with only 60 employees, but extremely high-tech thanks to the collaboration with Fincantieri, it is the most important Italian shipbuilding company, able to provide communication technology for Carnival’s new ships. The latter is the largest civil navy owner in the world, who also owns the Italian Costa Crociere. Fincantieri asked Teletronics to become partners in the design and implementation of Full IP integrated systems for ships sailing all over the world. “We have already made – said Sergio Lodolo, president of the company – three integrated communication systems for ships built in the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona for the French Compagnie du Ponant. Two other projects are underway for the construction in Monfalcone of a series of ships for Princess, also belonging to the Carnival Group. A third is pending, for P & O. ” For these vessels Teletronics is building redundant and virtualized phone systems with IP 4000 users each. For 2013, 2014 and 2015, the company is already working on other projects that will most likely develop in further cooperation projects.
