Jan. 16 – Italy surpasses Germany and France in the exports race. In November, Italian exports recorded a strong performance in foreign markets, with an increase in sales (data seasonally adjusted) of 4.1% compared to the same month of 2011, reaching a value of about €33 billion. During the same period, Italy’s main competitors, Germany and France, went down to a halt, with a decline in exports of 0.1% and 2.5% respectively. Comparing the November performance with that of earlier months, Italy showed a slight increase in exports of 0.4% compared to October 2012, while the German and French exports suffered a decline of 3.4% and 2.8% respectively. “Exporting is, in this delicate phase of the Italian economy, the only driving force for growth. We should not only export more, but is also engage ourselves directly in international markets: Italian firms operating abroad account for about one fifth of the total number of industrial workers in Italy, making approximately €435 billion in revenue, ” says Gaetano Fausto Esposito, Secretary General of Assocamerestero, while commenting on Istat data for foreign trade, released today.
