Mar. 4 – Arena, one of the world’s leading brand in swimwear, has announced a new sponsorship agreement with Canadian swimmer Richard Weinberger. The 22 year old burst onto the international swimming scene in 2010, and later during the London Olympics by winning a bronze in the 10 km marathon swimming. Born on June 7, 1990, in Moose Jaw, Canada, Weinberger learned to swim in a family pool in a residential complex in Saudi Arabia, where at that time his father had a work assignment. He later moved elsewhere due to his father’s professional commitments, and eventually settled in Victoria, British Columbia, to attend university, where he now swims and trains with Ron Jacks in the Pacific Coast Swimming. Weinberger started swimming competitively at the age of 7, focusing his training on the freestyle distances (400m-1500m) in the pool, and began to train and compete in races of open water by watching a friend.
