Mar. 18 – The TaorminaFilmFest and the International Festival-Pantalla Pinamar came together to promote growth and development in their individual film industries and cultures. The first step takes place today during the second-to-last day of the Pinamar festival, Argentina: a TaorminaFilmFest prize will be delivered to Liliana Mazure. “The Taormina Film Festival awards Liliana Mazure, president of the National Argentina Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts for her brilliant and important career in the world of cinema and audiovisual, also celebrating the beginning of a relationship between our festivals,” reads the citation below the prize. “This initiative highlights – say the director of TaorminaFilmFest, Mario Sesti, and the General Manager, Tiziana Rocca – the desire to learn more each other’s film industries. Especially in Argentina, there are interesting authors, actors, directors, such as Juan Jose Campanella, Sebastian Borensztein, actor Richard Darin, and young author Laura Citarella, that should be brought out of anonymity. Also there is a need to reconnect with a culture and a market that in the past loved Italian cinema.” For TaorminaFilmFest’s next edition, a delegation from Argentina will attend, while in 2014 the two directors will bring to the other’s screenings a selection of their own films. The 59th edition of TaorminaFilmFest will be held between June 15 and June 22.
