May 9 – MOOCs, Massive Open Online Courses, are the worldwide phenomenon of the moment in higher education: courses at the highest level that can be followed online for free, supported by the university’s most prestigious and authoritative organizations. In this context, the University of Siena wants to launch a proposal by Professor Roberto Renò of the Department of Economics and Statistics, who is competing in these days in the Mooc Production Fellowship 2013 selection, sponsored by the German Stifterverband . The ten selected projects will receive funding of € 25,000 each, to be used during the realization of the course. The winners will be selected by online public votes and a panel of experts. Spread, stocks, bonds, derivatives, fiscal compact, risk prediction, but also the role of the European Central Bank in the debt control are some of the concepts and issues underlying the proposal of Professor Renò, entitled “Sovereign Bond Pricing.” “There are many terms that have entered our daily lives – says Renò – which actually imply high complexity, the understanding of which requires in-depth knowledge of finance’s underlying mechanisms. Due to the relevance of the theme, I thought it was a good proposal to be submitted by the University of Siena, already strongly committed to internationalization.”
