May 29 – The extraordinary success of “La Notte della Taranta” in Puglia, especially for the editions directed by Marco Pagani between 2007 and 2009, convinced the artist to export the event to the United States. One of the most iconic events of the Italian tradition, “La Notte della Taranta” will be part of the “Italy U.S. in 2013” program, sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Culture. Mauro Pagani and the folk orchestra “La notte della Taranta” will be in concert on Sunday, July 14 at the Boston Common, and on Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 July at Le Poisson Rouge in New York. Produced by Massimo Gallotta in collaboration with the “Notte della Taranta” Foundation and “Invitalia,” “La Notte della Taranta” consists of a group of extraordinary Salento musicians who came together more than 10 years ago o revisit and spread the Pizzica and the culture associated with it. The tradition of Tarantismo is embedded with Salento’s history: its strong ties with Trance and the comforting role of music make its language, rituals and content more relevant today than ever before.
