June 14 – Peacekeeping courses for peace maintenance and peace building, peace consolidation. This is what the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa, on June 17-21, will present during the Johannesburg training course for civilian personnel. Made possible thanks to the financial contribution of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the “Training program on civilian peacebuilding capacity,” is jointly organized by the Italian institution (as part of the ‘”International training program for conflict management” directed by prof. Andrea de Guttry), and the St. Augustine College in Johannesburg. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also participate with Vincenzo Schioppa, Italian Ambassador to South Africa, and other diplomatic staff present at the official opening ceremony. The course takes stock of the international and regional framework of reference for peacekeeping missions and peace building, as well as other operational tools that civilian staff uses. The topics range from legal aspects to regional variations and peculiarities, including human rights issues and the disarmament and reintegration of former fighters.
