July 15 – America is getting ready for the night of the Taranta: a mix of music, dance, passion and tradition. Thanks to the program “Italy in the U.S. 2013,” sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture, Mauro Pagani and the Popular Orchestra “La Notte della Taranta” will perform tonight at the Boston Common, and tomorrow, Tuesday, July 16, at (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York. Mauro Pagani directs yet again the popular orchestra “La notte della Taranta” after the successful Salento editions of 2007-2008-2009, helping make it the biggest festival in the country and one of the most iconic events of European folk tradition. The event is produced by the Foundation “La Notte della Taranta” with Massimo Gallotta, in collaboration with Puglia Sounds and Invitalia. The Orchestra is composed by a group of extraordinary musicians who came together more than ten years ago in order to revisit and spread the Pizzica and culture associated with it. The tradition of Tarantismo is embedded with Salento’s history: its strong ties with Trance and the comforting role of music make its language, rituals and content more relevant today than ever before.
