July 21 – Despite the worsening of the economic crisis, Grana Padano confirms its positive export trend and its winning status as Made in Italy product in the world. Istat data for April showed an increase of 20.13% at an international level, with a peak of 21.38% for the European Union, in the export of the product. “This is an important and encouraging signal – said Stefano Berni, general manager of Grana Padano – which we hope will be confirmed during the rest of the year. After January, February and March registered a sharp drop. Now, thanks to the recovery in April, we can say that, overall, the first quarter of 2013 closed at +7% compared to 2012, and at the European level it reaches +10%.” In particular, the export of Grana Padano in April, according to ISTAT, touches Russia (+ 98%) and Canada (+ 55%). But, looking at the Italian market and taking into consideration the May data, the most recent available, Director Berni stresses that “compared to 2012 we register substantial stability, which should be read as a positive sign.” This optimism is also supported “by the decline in milk production and sales trend, definitely a framework that reassures the national level.”
