Aug. 12 – Fincantieri’s ships sail the world’s seas, and now, thanks to the firm’s Norwegian subsidiary Vard, Fincantieri won a bid from the Dof Subsea-Technip joint venture to build 4 support ships for offshore constructions. The deal, worth $1.1 billion, is Vard’s most important contracts to date, and one of the largest in the general sector. “This record breaking deal – commented Giuseppe Bono, Fincantieri’s CEO – fills us with pride and satisfaction. Thanks to our main investors, the offshore sector has become one of our main target audiences in our efforts to diversify and seek out new investment opportunities. Even in Italy there is a strong tradition of shipbuilding, supported by companies like Fincantieri and other globally relevant operators active in the oil and gas sector, as well as highly specialized SME networks. This tradition creates a cluster able to compete on international markets, with important spillover effects in the Italian economy, the added value of the involved businesses and their margins of profit. Overall, this could amplify the empooyment base of the country.”
