Sept. 12 – Lombard export in Thailand is booming, with growth in a year increasing by 8.4%. Half a billion interchanges occurred between Lombardy and Thailand in six months: with machinery and food (29% and 23 % respectively being imported from Thailand) and exporting machinery and chemicals (42% and 16 %). Milan (amounting to about half of the exchanges) remains the most important city in the Italian region, followed by Monza, Brescia, Bergamo and Varese (all around 10 %). Import are also mainly directed towards Milan (about half) with Como (11.3%) coming in second. This is shown by an elaboration of the Chamber of Commerce of Milan on Istat data for the first six months of 2013. A telling sign to the strength of relationships between Lombardy and Thailand is the Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra visit to Milan, at a conference held by the Chamber of Commerce. “The rapid changes in the international economic scenario have forced our companies to look beyond national borders and develop their business on new markets – said Bruno Ermolli, President of Promos, a special agency of the Milan Chamber of Commerce for internationalization. Among these foreign lands there is Thailand, with which the Chamber of Commerce of Milan, through Promos, intends to launch bilateral relations aimed at creating new business opportunities for our businesses. Our hope is that Thailand proves to be a reference point for the South- East Asia region, and at the same time Milan, Italy and, more generally, can become for the country and Asian countries an access door to the European market and that of Mediterranean countries.”
