Sept. 17 – Umbria is a fascinating region to discover, with its rolling hills, small villages, and woods: ninety-two hundred cities and municipalities scattered around, symbol of ideas and cultures, united by art, colors, tradition and history. Umbria’s culinary and gastronomic delights are also well known. “Italy’s green heart” has an undisputed star, a product of the highest quality that ranks among the best in Italy and the world: its extra-virgin olive oil. “Umbria’s Green Gold ” is one of the region’s food glories; a product that despite the low production percentage at the national level, each season reaches high quality levels, having won three of the 12 major awards provided in the latest edition of the national Olivario Hercules, a competition for the promotion of Italian olive-growing excellence. And now Umbria’s oil is preparing to conquer the Germans, and Berlin in particular. Its mission is to educate on oil quality and transmit a message to the wide audience of consumers thanks to a number of authoritative scientific investigations. The message will be that oil is a healthy food that can easily enter the local diet for its nutritional benefits. To disseminate this, an event is scheduled for tomorrow morning. Unioncamere Umbria, Promocamera, the Foreign Trade Centre and the National Competition Hercules Olivario, in collaboration with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Germany, organized a press conference in the halls if the Hotell Adlon Kempinski in Berlin, one of the best known hotels of the German capital. With 20 regional companies present alongside their productions, the event will not be just another informative conference but a real fair dedicated to Umbria olive oil. It will bring together journalists, restaurateurs, representatives of mass retailers and manufacturers. On this occasion, the organizers are also announcing the launch of a blog in German on Umbria oil as well as a newsletter to increasingly inform consumers on the health properties and the authenticity of the product. Finally, Udo Gumpel, the German television journalist correspondent for Italy NTV and other networks, will present to the press the Umbrian oils and the Regional Oil Dop Competition, which annually recognizes the best products in the Italian region.
