Oct. 29 – The Polyphonic Choir “San Giovanni” from the Bagnaia municipality, in the province of Viterbo, is participating in the Malta International Choir Festival 2013. The festival kicked off yesterday and will end on Sunday, November 3. The most important and interesting places on the island, a land rich in charm and history millennial churches, theaters, auditoriums, will host performances of choral groups. Places where painting, sculpture and architecture come together and create a harmonious whole will see music create a magical and enchanting environment. And so the Viterbo choir will take the stage in the church of the Carmelites of Mdina, a charming baroque building, as well as in the St. Augustin Renaissance church. “We are truly satisfied – says Maria Loredana Serafini, president and director of the Choir – and we will dive into this exciting musical marathon with great enthusiasm. We are performing in one of the places where, for historical sensitivity gained towards Catholic traditions, the sacred choral repertoire is most appreciated.” After the success of the Caesar Dobici meetings last week, made possible thanks to the extraordinary participation of Giovanni Acciai, the Polyphonic Choir is ready for a new adventure. The appointment is part of the historical Maltese calendar of events, and the Viterbo Choir, active for 25 years, will be accompanied by maestro Ferdinando Bastianini. Together, they will perform within Valletta’s most famous churches: the Carmelites church, that of St. Augustin and at the Cathedral. The performances will be attended by the highest religious and civil authorities in Malta. An interesting concert is also planned at St. Philip of Agira in Zebbug, on the Gozo Island, attended by the general manager of the Malta Tourism Authority. During his stay on the island, maestro Bastianini will perform in Malta’s most famous sites. The festival is not competitive and is open to female, male, mixed, children’s, religious, secular music, Alpine choirs and traditional folk music chours. The repertoire ranges from the sacred to the profane, from traditional to gospel, and folk.
