Oct. 29 – Tours and tastings, sea and beaches, art, culture and nature: it’s impossible to not fall in love with Tuscany. And foreign tourists know this, as each year their numbers visiting the Elba island, the Uffizi Gallery, the Palio di Siena or the Viareggio Carneval increase. And now the land of Dante Alighieri receives an international recognition for its beauties. Skyscanner, with over 25 million monthly visitors, is the first online comparison site for European flights, and it gave Tuscany the title “Favorite Destination.” This is the first time that Skyscanner – an international search engine based in Edinburgh – decides to award a location and it began doing so from Italy. Cristina Scaletti – Head of Tourism of the Tuscany Region – will receive the Skyscanner Italian Award from Caterina Toniolo, country manager for Skyscanner Italy. The appointment is tomorrow at 12.30 in Florence, at the headquarters of the Tuscany Region. Skyscanner, during a press conference scheduled immediately after the delivery of the prize, will provide data on the arrivals and departures at the Florence and Pisa airports in 2013 to 2012, the top 20 countries that choose Tuscany as a destination, and the detail on the travel habits of couples, families and one-way flyers. Commissioner Scaletti and the country manager for Skyscanner Italy will participate in the award ceremony and press conference.
