Nov. 1 – It is an absolute novelty in the world and, as it often happens in history, originality and innovation are synonymous with Italian production. Pirelli and the Ministry of the Environment, in collaboration with the Forum das Americas, presented a project for the construction in Feira de Santana (Bahia state) of the largest solar power plant in the world for direct production of medium-temperature steam for factory production. The project is the result of a collaboration agreement signed in January 2012 by the Ministry and Pirelli, which aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions, within the environmental cooperation framework between Italy and Brazil. The latter was strengthened in June 2012, when the Italian Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Energy in Brazil signed a new agreement. The Director General for Sustainable Development, Climate and Energy, Corrado Clini, the Italian Consul General in Sao Paulo, Mauro Marsili, the Director of the ICE Sao Paulo, Federico Balmas, the chairman of Pirelli South America, Paolo Dal Pino, and the president of the Forum das Américas, Mario Garnero, attended the project presentation. The project was realized with the contribution of the Milan Polytechnic, a university that works with Pirelli in its R&D department and that in this case will carry out the preliminary study, and the Angelantoni Group, which will provide the unique technology for concentrating solar thermal power, developed in Italy, with the assistance of the Ministry of the Environment. According to the collaboration agreements with the Ministry of the Environment, the Italian Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies (ICE) and the Brazilian organization Forum das Americas will monitor the implementation phase of the project.
