Nov. 15 – Pedon Spa, a company from Molvena in the province of Vicenza, launched a cooperation project that aims at expanding vegetable production at affordable prices for five Ethiopian cooperatives, through an investment of €1.5 million to be followed by another €5 million for plant expansion. As reported by Corriere del Veneto, the new farming contract was negotiated with the Dgcs, and will benefit a total of 2.000 families in the region of Oromia, in a form similar to the agreement reached in the area by the Italian Cooperation Agency, active in the fight against hunger and poverty through other types of agricultural products. The African cooperatives are committed to the production of red beans (on 121 hectares) and chickpeas (on another 14 acres), with around 130 quintals of seeds provided by Pedon’s Ethiopian branch. Production must follow the precise standards to which the Pedon Group is committed in the purchase of agricultural commodities obtained based on the market price of the Ethiopian Stock Exchange, with variations depending on the characteristics of the product.
