Nov. 20 – The “LivCom Awards 2013” are a global competition between different administrations and governments held in the Peoples Republic of China; its goal is to highlight the best designs for environmental management in different sectors. The Chinese initiative saw the participation of the Region of Sardinia, which, through the Department of Defense of the Environment competed in Whole City Awards (for the category E – Over 400,000) and Project Awards (for socio-economic projects). The Region presented a project that has, in the past years, increased the percentage of recycling from 5% to almost 50 % thanks to a ‘reward – penalty’ mechanism. The jury carried out a thorough analysis all the submitted projects, and placed the Sardinian among the 7 finalists in the Whole City Awards category. “The presence of our work among the final projects is a source of particular pride for us – says the Regional Minister of Defense of the Environment, Andrea Biancareddu – because it underlines the efficiency and sustainability of our planning and organizational policy. We believe in our newly found vocation, and we are happy that our work is appreciated by the international community.” The award ceremony will be held in Xiamen City in the Fujian Province, an important business district, between 28 November and 2 December.
