Nov. 21 – Enel Green Power, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power North America, begun the construction of the new Origin wind project, in the Carter and Murray Counties of Oklahoma. The new plant will have a total installed capacity of 150 MW and will be able to generate up to 650 GWh of electricity per year, thus avoiding 700.000 tons of CO2 emissions. The Origin wind farm, held by Origin Wind Energy, a subsidiary of Enel Green Power North America, will be completed and brought into operation by the end of 2014. The construction of the wind farm is in line with the growth targets set out by Enel Green Power’s 2013-2017 business plan. Origin requires a total investment of about $250 million, and was financed by the Enel Green Power Group. The project is associated with a twenty-year contract for the purchase of energy produced by the plant. The project has all the characteristics necessary to obtain the “production tax credits” qualification, fiscal incentives required by U.S. law in favor of renewable energy producers. The new facility adds on to Enel Green Power’s farms of Rocky Ridge (150 MW) and Chisholm View (235 MW) already in operation in Oklahoma. At present, the installed wind power capacity of Enel Green Power North America amounts to over 1265 MW. Enel Green Power North America owns and operates more than 90 facilities in 21 U.S. states and 2 Canadian provinces, for a total installed capacity of 1,600 MW from wind, geothermal, solar and hydro resources.
