Nov. 26 – Prosecco, Soave, Valpolicella Ripasso, Amarone… A local proverb says “he who drinks wine never dies.” The popular saying embodies tradition, history and culture. And Veneto, with its centuries-old traditions in wine production, is the leading Italian region for quantity produced. Thanks to its winning combination of quality and tradition, Veneto wines are increasingly looking abroad, facilitated in their task by their ancestors’ “Vino de Venegia,” that Venice merchants sold all over the world and that is still among the most popular wines. Veneto returns to explore the Far East with a journey along the Silk Road, with consortia and wineries represented by the Veneto Doc Wines Union. The mission involves a group of 10 companies that are proposing to introduce their products in South Korea, in Seoul, and Singapore. In recent days, leading industry professionals hosted meetings and tasting sessions in Seoul. Professor Kirchul Lee, a professor of Italian language at the University of Seoul and connoisseur of Italian opera and traditions, and Edwin Soon, known sommelier, speaker and author on wine and food, led the tastings for an attentive audience of about 70 buyers, importers, restaurant owners and connoisseurs. Beyond the commercial aspect, the Veneto Doc Wines Union met with institutional representatives, obtaining official recognition with the Italian Ambassador in Seoul Paolo Crudele. “We are very pleased; we increased the visibility and knowledge on our wines and strengthened their presence in these countries – said Arturo Stocchetti , president of the Veneto Doc Wines Union – . Again, the Union proves to be a reality in which companies believe. The presence of an increasing number and diverse range of Consortia and wineries in our international initiatives shows that we are on the right track.”
