(Dec. 2) – Italian “green” energy around the world is increasingly popular thanks to Enel Green Power, one of the main operators on an international level in the generation of power from renewable sources. The company has an annual production of 25 billion kilowatt-hours produced by water, sun, wind and geothermal, and is able to meet the needs of over 10 million households each year and avoid more than 18 million tons of CO2 emissions. Enel Green Power’s expansion continues in Chile, where the group competed in the public bid “SIC 2013 -01” and won the right to carry out a long-term contracts for the supply of energy for a maximum of 4,159 GWh for the entire duration of contracts, with a pool of distribution companies operating on Chile’s regulated market. “Supply at a price of $128 per MWh – said EGP in a statement – will begin during the December 2013 and expire in 2024; supply will be provided by an already operating system and two new solar photovoltaic and one wind power plant, for a total installed capacity of 161 MW. These plants will be located in the central interconnected system (SIC). The new facilities will be constructed and will be operational by the first half of 2015. The realization of the three plants requires a total investment of $320 million, financed by Enel Green Power’s own resources. The result is in line with the objectives of Enel Green Power’s strategic growth as detailed in the 2013 – 2017 Business Plan. “In Chile, in the wind sector, Enel Green Power recently connected to the Talinay plant (90 MW) network, is nearing completion of its construction sites in the Valle de los Vientos (90 MW), and last August it opened a construction site in Taltal park (99MW).
