Dec. 10 – Directly from Pisa, from the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, to Beijing: Andrea de Guttry will have the task of teaching peacekeeping techniques to the Chinese polic . De Guttry is professor of international law at the Higher School of University Studies and Specialization of Sant’Anna di Pisa, and is also director of the International Training Programme for Conflict Management: a program of the Scuola that trains, researches and consults in peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance, and human rights. China is participating in new types of “peace-keeping” techniques, making available to the United Nations a significant number of men belonging to its police force, to teach them the legal aspects of these operations. The first course taught by the teacher of St. Anna kicked off yesterday in the vicinity of Beijing. The Tuscan professor, author of numerous publications on issues of security, international relations and transatlantic relations, is the “China Police Peacekeeping Training Center,” where they train thousands of Chinese police every year. “In recent years, peace-keeping operations – says De Guttry – have meant increasingly important tasks for law enforcement. Activities such as the maintenance of public order, conducting complex investigations, the reorganization of the national security apparatus, the training of local police forces… are conducted by United Nations Member States forces in internal or international states post-conflict states. For the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, it is an important recognition of the work on staff training for international missions.”
