Jan. 6 – Eni and Pakistan are about to become just a little bit closer. The group has been present in the country since 2000, where it is the leading producer of oil and gas. In 2012, the company’s equity production of oil was approximately 57,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources of Pakistan, Shahid Abbasi Khaqqan, and Eni CEO Paolo Scaroni met in Karachi to take stock of Eni’s activities and projects in the country. “The parties – refers Eni in a note – have faced the need to increase domestic gas production by exploiting the country’s great potential for shale gas exploration in ultra-deep water areas, where Eni can bring its expertise and experience. The minister outlined the government measures to attract investments for the discovery of new energy resources, and has confirmed the government’s intention to create appropriate policies where necessary. The parties have also highlighted the importance of further cooperation initiatives between Eni and Pakistani national energy companies.”
