Jan. 20 – Antonio Vivaldi is one of the greatest composers of baroque music worldwide, which is why the Red priest – nickname that he was given because of his red hair – is celebrated once again for his compositions, in an event dedicated to Italian music of the 17th and 18th century. The ” Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca” will pay homage to the great Venetian composer in a performance in Hungary directed by Francesco Fanna for the exhibition “Barocco.it.” The event is organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Budapest in conjunction with the exhibition “Caravaggio and Canaletto,” at the Museum of Fine Arts. The concert proposed by “Sonatori,” one of the most successful Italian ensembles, devoted to the performance of on period instruments, is called” Vivaldi’s women,” and will see soloists Gemma Bertagnolli, Manuela Custer, and Susanna Moncayo perform. The concert – scheduled for Monday, January 27 at 7pm at the Sala Verdi of the IIC Budapest – want to represent a path for words and music dedicated to the women in the composer’s life. It will focus on a selection of music drawn from Vivaldi’s operatic repertoire, a sacred vocal and instrumental piece composed for the “Ospedale della Pietà” in Venice. The Venetian violinist spent his life between the most important opera theaters in Europe – which he attended as both composer and impresario – and the Ospedale della Pietà, the Venetian orphanage where he carried out his work as a teacher and for which he composed a great deal of vocal and instrumental music. Vivaldi was always surrounded by women: the “prima donnas” in theaters all over Europe and the “putte,” extraordinary singers and instrumentalists who taught music at the Ospedale della Pietà in Venice.
