Apr. 15 – The Water development resources opportunity policies for the water management in semi- arid areas project, or Water-Drop, seeks to increase the per capita availability of water and the reduction of pollution of water resources in the Mediterranean. The project is coordinated by ENEA and developed under the multilateral cross-border cooperation program “Mediterranean sea basin program 2007/2013,” co-financed by the European Union. “The Water -Drop project – reads a statement released by Enea – will have a duration of 24 months, and it involves other partners from Italy (the Tuscany Region, and NGOs Haliéus and Arcs of Rome), Spain (the ACPP Valencia NGO), Cyprus (University of Nicosia), Lebanon (Planning and development Agency of Hermel, National council for scientific research of Beirut), the Palestinian Territories (Palestinian hydrology group), Jordan (IUCN – regional Office for the Middle East in Amman) and three associated partners (the Lazio Region, The Middle East Desalination Research Center, and the Water Right Foundation).” The project aims to develop a common approach to integrated water resources management (IWRM) in the Mediterranean basin through the creation of partnerships that involve a number of public and private actors. “In this way – continues the statement – it will be possible to affect technical and methodological aspects, as well as implementing and strengthening capacity building and the development of proposals for regulatory compliance.”
