Apr. 29 – Valerio Loi was born in 1986 in Dolianova, province of Cagliari. He has lived in London for 4 years and this year he will complete his degree in photography at West London University. His works have been exhibited in different countries for various art events: UK, France, Belgium and China. And finally this young artist’s talents have reached his home country, Italy. At San Galgano palace of the University of Siena, a photographic exhibition will be inaugurated this afternoon at 6:30 pm. Entirely set in London, Loi’s show is the third part of the review of contemporary photography “Cities photographers of the urban.” The event is organized by the Contemporary Art History at the Department of Historical Sciences and Heritage and the Humanities Library, and is coordinated by Professor Massimo Bignardi. The exhibition dedicated to the young Sardinian photographer is curated by Martin Cappai and housed on the ground floor of the San Galgano palace, while on the first floor there is a permanent exposition of little known books on London, selected from the Humanities Library. “The exhibition displays fourteen very intimate and private shots, – explains Martin Cappai – They represent symbols, memories, moments of the neighborhoods in which he lived: marginal, excluded, overlooked, vulnerable people are generally the subjects in a “sociological” photograph that highlights the contradictions of life in a Western metropolis. Valerio Loi’s sensitivity led him to observe and grasp these nuances and implications of the inevitable live in a city of nine million people, caught in their alienation town, lost in the hectic pace of urban life.” The exhibition will remain open until May 13.
