(May 9th) The University of Parma has been selected by Nvidia, global leader in the production of video cards for personal computers (which recently has also established itself in the development of hardware for scientific computing ) as a CUDA Research Centre. CUDA (an acronym for Compute Unified Device Architecture) is a hardware architecture for parallel processing created by Nvidia. The research work , thanks to which the University of Parma has achieved this recognition ,will allow to predict in real time the evolution of phenomena such as flooding and reduce the damage so caused. The credit goes in particular to the studies carried out by Professor Alessandro Dal Palù, from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, by Professor Paolo Mignosa and Engineer Renato Vacondio, from the Department of Civil Engineering, Environment, Land and Architecture.
