May 20 – “1914-2014: à la vie ! Letters of war and love poems on the centenary of the Great War” is the show in which the “Duo Alterno” remembers the anniversary of the First World War. The duo, Tiziana Scandaletti (soprano) and Riccardo Piacentini (composer and pianist), will perform on Saturday, May 24 at the Conservatory of Rimsky – Korsakov in St. Petersburg and on Tuesday, May 27 at the Glinka Museum of Moscow. Both events are organized with the collaboration of the Italian Cultural Institutes of the two cities. The Washington Post called “Duo Alterno” as “the duo with a big voice and a fine sense of comedic timing,” while La Repubblica says it’s “the duo that gives a voice (and sound) to the Italian twentieth century.” Born in Turin and now considered one of the most significant piano – vocal experiences in contemporary music, the Duo Alterno has, since its debut in Vancouver in 1997, given concerts and master classes on contemporary music in more than thirty countries. Many composers (among them Giacomo Manzoni and Ennio Morricone) have composed for Scandaletti, who is also Professor of Vocal Chamber Music at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome, and pianist and composer Piacentini, who is Professor of Composition at the Conservatorio Vivaldi of Alessandria.
