June 4 – On 28 April 2004, Bologna and Portland, Oregon, signed a partnership that strived for more stable relations in the fields of culture, mobility, environmental sustainability, and energy conservation. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the partnership, from today until June 9, a Bologna delegation will be in Portland, guest of the Portland-Bologna Sister City Association. Bologna selected 3 young companies to support their trip to the U.S., providing them with a program of meetings for exchange and training. The mission also sees the participation of Bologna councilor Matteo Lepore, International Relations Officer Francesca Martinese, the Municipality of Bologna, Bologna start-uppers, and the Association of Bologna LaVitaBella. Since 2004, each year about one hundred Portlanders, among businessmen, tourists and American students come to Bologna. The summer exchange programs are particularly active, thanks to the hospitality of the families accredited with the Youth Office of the Municipality of Bologna. Finally, Portland State University plays a crucial role; it follows all twinning activities and established a strong partnership with the University of Bologna.
