June 6 – Italian movies are taking over Canada, with the third edition of the Italian Contemporary Film Festival, scheduled for June 12-20 in Toronto. The Festival is an official partner of the Toronto International Film Festival, and is the only Italian Film Festival in Canada. In Toronto , Carlo Verdone will receive the “Lifetime Achievement Award,” a recognition of his contribution to Italian cinema. Director, actor and screenwriter Verdone began his career in television 40 years ago and today is considered by critics and audiences alike a pillar of Italy’s movie culture. Verdone is very popular abroad, especially with the North American public, who recently enjoyed his performance in the Oscar-winning film “The Great Beauty” by Paolo Sorrentino. The Festival will screen Verdone latest work, “sotto una buona stella,” at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, on June 19. The young producer Andrea Iervolino will also be in Canada during those days for the world premiere of “2047. Sights of death” by Alessandro Capone, scheduled for June 13 also at TIFF Bell Lightbox.
