June 10 – ENI continues its international expansion with an agreement concluded with Sasol Petroleum International, the upstream O&G subsidiary of Sasol Limited, to acquire a 40% interest and Operatorship in the Exploration Right permit 236 (ER236) in South Africa. The agreement thus guarantees ENI the exploration rights of a wide and unexplored offshore area of 82.000 sqkm off the eastern coast of South Africa, namely the Durban and Zululand basins in the province of Kwazulu-Natal. The permit was granted to Sasol by the South African regulator Petroleum Agency of South Africa (PASA) in late 2013. “The agreement – said in a statement ENI – is subject to the approval of the government of South Africa. It strengthens ENI’s presence in East Africa, where it has exploration activities in Mozambique and Kenya. The Farm-in agreement forms part of a wider cooperation between Sasol and Eni in Southern Africa and other areas, mainly focused on maximizing opportunities in the gas value chain.”
